Prostate Cancer Risk & Health Screening
Advanced Diagnostic Protocol
Clinical Significance
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the UK, with more than 52,000 diagnoses each year according to Cancer Research UK. Many early prostate changes cause no symptoms at all, which is why some men choose regular PSA-based risk screening. Our Prostate Cancer Risk & Health Screening combines a Total and Free PSA profile with a broad general-health panel — full blood count, kidney and liver function, cholesterol, HbA1c and thyroid — so you get context around your prostate markers, not just a single number.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What does a PSA test actually tell me?
PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) is a protein made by the prostate. Raised levels can be associated with prostate cancer, but also with benign prostate enlargement, infection, recent exercise or ejaculation. Our test measures both Total and Free PSA — the ratio between the two helps clinicians better interpret a raised result. PSA screening cannot diagnose cancer; it identifies men who may benefit from further assessment.
Q. Who should consider prostate risk screening?
The NHS does not run a routine prostate screening programme, but men over 50 may request a PSA test. Risk rises with age, with a family history of prostate cancer, and is higher in Black men, in whom risk is roughly double and often begins earlier (from around age 45).
Q. What happens if my PSA is raised?
A raised PSA does not mean you have cancer. Our registered nurse will explain your result in a written report and advise you to see your GP, who may repeat the test, examine the prostate, or refer you for MRI. Most men with a raised PSA do not turn out to have prostate cancer.
Q. Why does this package include general health markers?
Because a single PSA figure lacks context. Kidney function, diabetes markers and cholesterol provide a fuller picture of your health, and the extra markers can identify unrelated issues, such as anaemia or thyroid dysfunction, that deserve attention in their own right.
Q. How quickly will I get results?
Results are typically available the next working day, delivered through our secure portal with a written report from our registered nurse explaining every marker in plain English.
Q. Is the blood draw uncomfortable?
Our experienced registered nurse performs a standard venous blood draw, which most patients find quick and only mildly uncomfortable. The appointment usually takes around 20 minutes.
Clinical Protocol
Avoid ejaculation and vigorous exercise (especially cycling) for 48 hours before your appointment, as both can temporarily raise PSA. Please tell us about any recent urinary infection or prostate procedure, as testing may need to be deferred. Arrive well hydrated.
If you require a fasting lipid profile and glucose test, please fast for 12 hours before your appointment; only water is permitted during the fasting period.

Understanding PSA screening — the honest picture
PSA screening is genuinely useful but imperfect, and we believe men deserve the honest picture. Some prostate cancers do not raise PSA (false negatives), and many raised PSA readings are caused by benign conditions (false positives). This is why the UK has no national programme and why informed choice matters. Measuring both Total and Free PSA improves interpretation: cancerous tissue tends to produce more bound PSA, so a low free-to-total ratio may warrant closer attention. Establishing your personal baseline in your forties or fifties also makes future changes far more meaningful than any single reading.
What happens at your appointment
Your visit to our South Kensington clinic takes around 20 minutes. Our registered nurse will take a short health history, record your blood pressure, height, weight and other vital measurements, and perform the blood draw. Results are usually ready the next working day and are delivered securely with a written nurse report that explains each marker, flags anything outside the reference range, and tells you clearly whether any result should be discussed with your GP.
Private PSA testing vs the NHS
Any man over 50 can request a PSA test from his NHS GP, and we support that route. Men choose our private screening for speed (next-day results), convenience (early-morning, weekend and same-day appointments, seven days a week), the broader 40+ marker panel included alongside PSA, and the unhurried written explanation of results. If anything in your results needs NHS follow-up, we will say so plainly in your report.
Important: This is a screening (risk assessment) blood test, not a diagnostic test. No blood test can confirm or rule out cancer on its own. Results outside the reference range do not mean you have cancer, and normal results do not guarantee its absence. If you have symptoms, or your results are unexpected, we will advise you to discuss them with your GP, who can arrange further investigation where appropriate.
