Ovarian Cancer Risk Screening
Advanced Diagnostic Protocol
Clinical Significance
Ovarian cancer is often called the 'silent killer' because symptoms appear late. This advanced screening combines HE4 and CA-125 markers with the ROMA (Risk of Ovarian Malignancy Algorithm) to calculate your personalised risk. The ROMA algorithm significantly improves detection accuracy compared to CA-125 alone, identifying women who may benefit from further investigation.

Clinical Inquiries
Q. What are HE4, CA-125, and the ROMA algorithm?
HE4 and CA-125 are proteins that can be elevated in ovarian cancer. The ROMA algorithm combines these markers with your menopausal status to calculate your probability of ovarian malignancy—providing a more accurate risk assessment than either marker alone.
Q. Who should have ovarian cancer screening?
We recommend this screening for women over 50, those with family history of ovarian or breast cancer (BRCA genes), or anyone experiencing symptoms like persistent bloating, pelvic pain, difficulty eating, or increased urinary frequency.
Q. Can elevated markers mean something other than cancer?
Yes, CA-125 can be elevated in benign conditions like endometriosis, fibroids, or during menstruation. The ROMA algorithm helps differentiate, but elevated results require clinical interpretation and may warrant further investigation.
Clinical Protocol
No fasting required. Can be performed at any point in your menstrual cycle, though results should be interpreted with cycle timing in mind as CA-125 can fluctuate.
