Female Hormonal Health Screening
Advanced Diagnostic Protocol
Clinical Significance
Female hormones follow complex rhythms, and when they shift — through perimenopause, PCOS, thyroid interaction or pituitary signals — the effects touch everything from cycles and fertility to mood, skin, weight and sleep. Our Female Hormonal Health Screening maps the complete reproductive hormone axis: Oestradiol, FSH, LH, Prolactin, Testosterone, SHBG and the Free Androgen Index — seven markers that together explain patterns no single test can reveal.
Clinical Context
Potency issues are often the first sign of vascular or endocrine imbalance. This protocol includes full lipid profiling and testosterone mapping to ensure we address the root cause, not just the symptom.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Can this test tell me if I am perimenopausal?
It can contribute meaningfully to the picture. Rising FSH with fluctuating oestradiol is characteristic of perimenopause, though hormones vary month to month during this transition, and NICE guidance notes that women over 45 with typical symptoms do not need blood tests for diagnosis. For younger women, or where the picture is unclear, FSH and oestradiol readings are genuinely useful — your report will interpret them in context.
Q. Why does a female panel include testosterone?
Women produce testosterone too, and it matters for energy, mood and libido. Raised levels (with a high Free Androgen Index) are a key feature of PCOS, often accompanying irregular cycles, acne or excess hair growth. Low levels can be relevant to low libido, particularly after menopause.
Q. What can prolactin reveal?
Raised prolactin can stop ovulation, cause irregular or absent periods and reduce libido. Causes range from stress and medication to a benign, very treatable pituitary growth. It is an essential inclusion in any investigation of cycle changes.
Q. Will contraception affect my results?
Yes — combined hormonal contraception suppresses FSH, LH and natural oestradiol, and raises SHBG substantially. Results remain interpretable for some questions but not others; tell our nurse what you use and we will advise whether testing now will answer your particular question.
Q. Is this a fertility test?
It assesses key hormones relevant to ovulation and cycle health, which is often a sensible first step, but full fertility assessment also involves markers such as AMH and partner testing, plus imaging — pathways your GP or a fertility specialist can arrange. Your report will make appropriate suggestions based on your results.
Clinical Protocol
Timing matters for interpretation. If you have regular cycles, days 2–5 of your cycle give the most standardised baseline for FSH, LH and oestradiol. If your cycles are irregular or absent, test at any time and tell our nurse your last period date. Please tell us about hormonal contraception or HRT, as both significantly affect results.

Patterns, not single numbers
Female hormone results only make sense as a pattern. High FSH with low oestradiol points towards declining ovarian reserve or menopause transition; a raised LH:FSH ratio with a high Free Androgen Index is a classic PCOS signature; raised prolactin redirects attention to the pituitary. Because we measure the whole axis in one sample, your written report can interpret the relationships — which is where the real clinical meaning lives.
Perimenopause — getting clarity in the fog
The years before menopause can bring erratic cycles, night sweats, anxiety, brain fog and sleep disruption — symptoms frequently dismissed or misattributed. While no single blood test "diagnoses" perimenopause, objective hormone data alongside your symptom history builds a compelling picture to take to your GP, particularly when discussing whether HRT might be appropriate. Many of our patients tell us the report transformed that conversation.
A comfortable, female-led experience
Your appointment is led by our experienced female registered nurse in a private consultation room — a gentle blood draw, an unhurried discussion of your symptoms, and around 20 minutes of your day. Results arrive the next working day with a plain-English written report and clear guidance on any recommended GP follow-up.
Important: This screening service does not replace consultation with your GP. If you have symptoms that concern you, please speak to your GP or call NHS 111. Our registered nurse will clearly signpost you to appropriate NHS care if any result requires follow-up.
