Diabetes & Kidney Health Screening
Advanced Diagnostic Protocol
Clinical Significance
Diabetes and kidney disease are intimately linked—diabetes is the leading cause of kidney failure, yet both conditions progress silently for years before symptoms appear. This focused screening measures HbA1c (3-month glucose average), fasting glucose, and microalbumin (early kidney damage marker)—catching metabolic dysfunction at the earliest, most treatable stage.

Clinical Inquiries
Q. What is HbA1c and why is it important?
HbA1c (glycated haemoglobin) measures your average blood glucose over 2-3 months—far more useful than a single glucose reading. Levels of 42-47 mmol/mol indicate pre-diabetes (reversible with lifestyle change), while 48+ indicates diabetes.
Q. What is microalbumin testing?
Microalbumin detects tiny amounts of protein leaking into urine—the earliest sign of diabetic kidney damage, appearing years before kidney function declines. Catching this early allows intervention to prevent kidney failure.
Q. Who should have diabetes screening?
We recommend screening for anyone over 40, those with family history of diabetes, anyone overweight (especially abdominal obesity), people of South Asian, African-Caribbean, or Middle Eastern descent (higher risk), or those with PCOS or previous gestational diabetes.
Clinical Protocol
A 10-12 hour fast is required for accurate glucose measurement. Only water is permitted during the fasting period. Urine sample required for microalbumin—first morning sample is ideal.
