Q. Why investigate ED with blood tests?
Because ED usually has an identifiable contributor: vascular disease, diabetes, low testosterone, thyroid dysfunction or raised prolactin are all detectable in blood — and several are very treatable. NICE and British Society for Sexual Medicine guidance recommend exactly this kind of metabolic and hormonal work-up for persistent ED.
Q. Is ED really linked to heart disease?
Yes — the link is well established in cardiovascular research. Erectile arteries are 1–2mm wide versus 3–4mm coronary arteries, so atherosclerosis often shows there first. Persistent ED in men over 40 is considered a cardiovascular risk marker warranting exactly the lipid and glucose assessment this panel provides. Treating the underlying risk protects far more than your sex life.
Q. What if all my results come back normal?
That is genuinely useful information. Normal metabolic and hormonal results make psychological contributors (stress, anxiety, relationship factors) or medication side-effects more likely — both very addressable. Your report will outline sensible next steps, typically starting with your GP, who can also discuss effective treatments.
Q. Is this confidential?

Q. Do you prescribe ED medication?
No — we are a diagnostics clinic. Your GP can prescribe effective treatments, and our report gives them the metabolic and hormonal picture that makes that consultation far more productive.
Clinical Protocol
A morning appointment between 8am and 10am is recommended, as testosterone peaks early. A 12-hour fast is required for accurate glucose and lipid results — only water during the fasting period. Avoid ejaculation and vigorous exercise for 48 hours beforehand for reliable PSA readings.
If you require a fasting lipid profile and glucose test, please fast for 12 hours before your appointment; only water is permitted during the fasting period.

That sounds alarming, but it is actually an opportunity: the underlying process — endothelial dysfunction and early atherosclerosis — responds well to intervention when caught early. The hormonal dimension
Around one in five cases of ED has a significant hormonal contributor. Low free testosterone reduces libido and the quality of erections; raised prolactin suppresses the whole axis and occasionally signals a treatable pituitary cause; thyroid dysfunction in either direction can affect performance. This panel measures the active, unbound testosterone fraction — not just the total — which is what matters at tissue level.
