Fatigue & TirednessScreening
Comprehensive investigation into causes of chronic fatigue including thyroid, vitamins, and hormone levels.
Understanding Fatigue & Tiredness
Persistent tiredness is the single most common reason people book comprehensive health screening — and one of the most rewarding to investigate, because so many of its physical causes are simple to find and simple to fix. Iron deficiency (with or without anaemia), underactive thyroid, Vitamin D deficiency, B12 deficiency, early diabetes and poor sleep account for an enormous share of "tired all the time" presentations.
The statistics are striking: around one in six UK adults is Vitamin D deficient (one in four in winter), iron deficiency affects up to one in four menstruating women, B12 deficiency rises steeply with age and plant-based diets, and hundreds of thousands live with undiagnosed thyroid dysfunction. Each produces overlapping symptoms — exhaustion, brain fog, low mood, breathlessness on exertion — and each is confirmed or excluded by a simple blood panel.
The key is testing broadly rather than piecemeal. Single tests done one at a time through repeat visits often miss the picture (or the combination — deficiencies love company). A comprehensive panel answers the whole question at once: either it finds the physical cause, or it provides confident reassurance that redirects attention to sleep quality, stress, mood or lifestyle — a genuinely useful result in itself.

Diagnostic Path
Identifying clinical markers associated with fatigue & tiredness requires a high-resolution laboratory profile. Below are the recommended diagnostic assessments specifically calibrated for this concern.
Our Advanced Full Body MOT is purpose-built for fatigue investigation: full blood count (anaemia), complete iron studies with ferritin, Vitamin D, B12 and Folate, thyroid function, HbA1c and glucose, liver and kidney panels — 40+ markers covering every common physical cause in one morning visit. The Platinum packages add inflammation and cardiac markers where the picture is more complex. Results arrive as a written nurse report that addresses your symptom directly.
When to See Your GP Urgently
Screening is for people without acute symptoms. If any of the following apply, please seek medical care first:
- Fatigue with unexplained weight loss or night sweats — see your GP
- Breathlessness at rest or chest pain — urgent review; call 999 if acute
- Fatigue with new severe headaches or neurological symptoms — see your GP promptly
- Extreme sudden exhaustion with fever — see your GP or NHS 111
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the most common findings in tired patients?
In rough order: low Vitamin D, iron deficiency or low ferritin (especially in women), borderline thyroid function, B12 or folate insufficiency, and pre-diabetic HbA1c. A meaningful proportion of panels are normal — which shifts focus to sleep, stress and mood, all equally addressable.
How quickly can I feel better if a deficiency is found?
Often encouragingly fast: Vitamin D and B12 correction typically improves energy within four to eight weeks; iron takes a little longer to rebuild stores; thyroid treatment usually shows benefit within weeks of the correct dose. Your report includes practical guidance and GP signposting for anything needing prescription.
Should I try supplements first and test later?
Testing first is better science and usually better value: supplementing blind can mask deficiencies (making later diagnosis harder), misses non-nutritional causes such as thyroid or glucose problems, and B12 supplementation in particular invalidates subsequent testing for months.
Do I need to fast for this?
Yes — 12 hours for accurate glucose and lipid results (water is fine and encouraged). We offer early-morning fasting appointments so you can be tested and having breakfast by 9am.
