Antenatal screening checks your immunity and infection status before or during pregnancy. We test for Rubella, Hepatitis B and C, HIV, Syphilis, and blood group antibodies to identify risks that could affect pregnancy.
Ideally before conception (pre-conception screening) or as early as possible in pregnancy. This allows time for vaccinations if you're not immune to Rubella, or treatment if infections are detected.
If you're planning pregnancy and not immune to Rubella, you can be vaccinated before conceiving. You should wait 1 month after vaccination before trying to conceive. Rubella in pregnancy can cause serious birth defects.
