TTG (tissue transglutaminase antibody) blood test is an adequate means of identifying coeliac disease. To know whether a person has coeliac disease or not, a sample of blood is analysed to know the level of specific antibodies present in the blood.
For people who may be showing severe signs of intolerance to gluten, a tissue transglutaminase blood test can help your healthcare provider detect coeliac disease. A swift, convenient and reliable way to diagnose coeliac disease is to do a private tissue transglutaminase antibody blood test. This test can be booked individually or added as an extra to our private full-body health check package.

Coeliac disease is an autoimmune disorder that causes an intolerance to gluten, which can damage the duodenum. Gluten is a type of protein that is present in most foods and cereals like pasta, bread and a couple of others. Basically, anything that has rye, wheat or barley. This affects the villi and inhibits the body's ability to absorb nutrients, ultimately leading to some health problems properly.
BOOK AN APPOINTMENTIt is advisable for anyone who is showing any signs of coeliac disease to do a private TTG blood test to have a proper diagnosis. Coeliac disease usually comes with a lot of uneasiness and, affects your daily activities and develops into other health issues in the long run. To commence treatment and better manage the condition, performing the test and having a clear diagnosis is essential.
Coeliac symptoms usually don't look like the normal symptoms of an allergic reaction, and they can either be chronic or mild. These symptoms include:
A blood sample test is the most acceptable means of testing for coeliac disease. A trained medical professional will take a small sample of your blood from your arm's vein to be analysed in the laboratory. When someone with coeliac disease ingests anything with gluten, the body's natural defence is to make tissue transglutaminase and endomysia antibodies. If your test result shows elevated levels of these antibodies, it usually confirms the disorder.
Do not stop eating gluten before the test, as it could affect the test results. A reduction in gluten intake may cause the levels of the antibodies to be low and hence will produce an incorrect result.
No special preparation is required for this test. Your doctor may ask about your medical history and certain dietary changes. You can ask your healthcare provider any concerns or questions you have during this period.
The test is carried out using a small blood sample, which our phlebotomist will collect from the vein in your arm. This is generally painless and fast.
Your results will be ready in a couple of days. A mail will be sent to you to let you know that your result is ready. The time it takes to get your result back is different for each test, with some being available as early as three days.
If you notice any symptoms of coeliac disease or were recommended for a private TTG test, kindly contact us today to schedule an appointment.
Of course, you can take a TTG test at home, although the test results from an at-home test kit are not as reliable as the ones done by our healthcare professionals in our clinic. You can reach out to us to book an appointment.
Once you book a session, a written guide with instructions on what to do will be provided. Ensure you stay hydrated and inform your general practitioner about any medications you might be taking. Do not stop to take any medication unless you were told to do so.
All test results are tagged with certain colours for easy identification at the lab. Red means that it is far from the expected range, amber means that it is just slightly out of the expected range and green means that it is in the expected range given your age and sex. If your result falls in either amber or red, a follow-up call will be placed to advise you on the next action to take.
