Private Immune System Test

Your health is one of our top priorities!

The immune system is an intricate web of cells, organs and proteins whose primary role is to protect the body from infections and safeguard the cells of the body from potential damage. This is why the immune system needs to be at its best for the general health and wellness of the body.

An immune system test will be beneficial to know how well your immune system works. With an immune system test, it is easier to keep an eye on your immune system, get the needed clarity on your general well-being, and determine whether there is a need to take further steps to improve your immune system.

With our private immune system test, you have a reliable, quick and stress-free way to know how well your immune system performs. Our full body health MOT contains an immune system check, although you can also add the immune system check as an extra to any of our health screening packages.

Immune system blood test

A blood sample test is the best way to test the strength of your immune system. A blood sample test for immune system strength can give a clearer view of how well your body fights an infection or disease.

The immune system is the body’s front-line protection against attacks from foreign bodies. The immune system is programmed to help keep you from getting sick, and in cases where you get sick or wounded, it helps you recover quickly.

The immune system comprises a complex web of white blood cells, organs, proteins and chemicals. Each part works in conjunction with the others to defend your body from the following;

  • Fungal infections
  • Bacteria
  • Viruses
  • Parasites
  • Cancer cells

The immune system is essential when it comes to your body healing from an injury or illness.

A properly functioning immune system will do the following;

  • Know the difference between a foreign body and your cells.
  • Organise and launch an attack once a foreign body that could harm you is detected.
  • Stops the attack immediately after the threat has been eliminated.
  • Create antibodies against the foreign bodies you have come in contact with
  • Disperse the antibodies to germs that may try to get into your body in the future

The immune system may not always function as expected. There are times when it is not strong enough to fight against infections, and there are also times when the attack launched may be too strong that it begins to attack your own cells. Cases like this may result in an allergic reaction or an autoimmune disease.

Weak Immune System Test

You may have a weak immune system if your immune system is not strong enough to fight off an external attack from foreign bodies. There are so many factors that can cause a weak immune system:

  • Poor diet
  • Too much stress
  • Over-exercising
  • Bad sleep habits
  • Severe illnesses
  • Life choices (smoking, drinking or a seat-bound lifestyle)
  • Autoimmune disorders

Some of these symptoms can be reversed by changing your lifestyle and diet, but others may require medical attention to feel better again. An example is the autoimmune disorder. With a weak immune system test, you can have a clearer picture of how well your immune system is performing and get the required treatment if needed.

Who should do an immune system test?

Getting an immune system test is ideal for those who want to know and improve their general health and well-being.

Having a few infections, like the flu or common cold, several times a year is not out of place. However, cases of infections or sickness that are too frequent may indicate a weak immune system. You should consider an immune system blood sample test if you suffer from any of the following regularly:

  • Autoimmune disorders
  • Recurrent infections
  • Chronic illnesses
  • Persistent fatigue

What does an immune system test check for?

Our immune system test evaluates your white blood cells to understand how your immune system functions. The leukocytes, commonly known as the white blood cells, are cells that help fight against infections and react to inflammation. When the body comes in contact with a foreign body, it is spotted by the white blood cells and eliminated before it can cause harm to the body.

A breakdown of these different types of white blood cells in your blood will be part of your immune system blood test:

  • Lymphocytes- these cells aid in making antibodies and eliminate certain cancer cells.
  • Eosinophils- This cell helps to fight bacteria and parasitic infections. They also help in consuming harmful matter.
  • Neutrophils- This cell works primarily to fight off bacterial infections. It is the highest amount of white blood cells.
  • Basophils- these are the rarest of the white blood cells. They are in charge of your body’s reaction to inflammation.
  • Monocytes- These cells can advance into two important cells in the body. They are macrophages and dendritic. Dendritic cells are responsible for spotting antigens, which are the substances that trigger the immune system to make antibodies and macrophages that surround and eliminate microorganisms. They also activate other immune system cells and get rid of dead cells.

What can you expect at an immune system test?

A Trained medical specialist will collect a blood sample from the vein in your arm. This sample will be sent to the laboratory for analysis. The laboratory will compute the different types of white blood cells in your blood to know how effective your immune system is.

Your result should be ready within a few days, and your result report will explain what the result says and advise on the next action to take.

Frequently Asked Questions

Certain medications can affect your test results, so you will need to let us know whatever medications you are taking. When you book a session, a written guide on all you need to do or avoid will be sent to you in preparation for the test.

You can carry out a test at home with a home test kit, but the results will not be as accurate as the test done in a laboratory even though it seems more convenient. We have different locations, so you can look through them and find a location close to you for a more comprehensive and accurate test result.

Each test result is tagged with a particular colour, each meaning different things, with red being too far from the normal range, amber being just a little off the normal range, and green being the acceptable range for your sex and age.

Test results marked with either amber or red will come with recommendations on the next line of action. This may be lifestyle changes, close monitoring, or a visit to the clinic for further testing.
